Howdy Sailors,
Last night was a lively one! We had a steady 18-22 knots out of the SSW. Three boats braved the conditions to start the race. Tashtego filled in for the R/C and the course was set as BCA twice around to Stbd. The start and finish were at Mark A at the mouth of the river. The boats quickly sorted themselves out by waterline length with Tashtego reaching the first mark ahead of Panda and Pipe Dream III. Two times around went quickly as the first boat rounded the course in just over 30 minutes with the other two in hot pursuit.
The final results were Tashtego 1st, Panda 2nd, Pipe Dream III 3rd.
The second Race of the July Series is next Tuesday July 19th. The Charlie Clachrie Memorial Race is coming up on Sunday August 7th. Enjoy every day this summer, these days are hard to make up in January😊

Just a reminder that there is no race tonight. As an alternative we are going to gather at the eastern end of Sandy Point for a social gathering. Start time is 6:00 as usual. Harald is going to bring a grill so bring something to grill and your favorite beverage. It looks like it may be a cool night so bring a sweater and hope the rain holds off. If anyone needs a ride out Harald will be bringing a pontoon boat and I will be bringing my red power boat. I will be leaving Avondale Boat Yard at 5:30. I hope to see you out there.
Coming up we have Tuesday July 12th is the first race of the July series and the Charlie Clachrie memorial race is scheduled for Sunday August 7th. This is a fun race that takes place on a Sunday. The start will be off the Stonington breakwater and we will race to a spot where we can anchor for lunch and a swim and then race back to Stonington. Mark your calendars now and plan on joining us.

Howdy Sailors,
We had a beautiful night for sailing last night! The final race of the Tuesday Night Series was held in warm sunny conditions with a SW wind of 10-12 kts. Our race committee for the night was Steve and Paul on the yacht Ripple. They set a start/finish line and a course of CBA twice around to Port. Pipe Dream, Uncle Al, Panda, Pisces III and Tashtego started the race more or less on time. We all had a lovely sail as we followed Uncle Al around the course. It was good to see his crack crew of Daughter Mel and Chris Hansen on board. With a crew like that they led the fleet all the way to the finish line! After all of the number crunching was completed Uncle Al remained on top with Pisces III in second place and Tashtego in third. It was such a perfect night that several boats lingered in the area enjoying some extra sailing time.
Last night was also the final race of the June Series. This of course required extra computer time but lucky for us the folks at the NASA computing center were able to accommodate us. In scoring the series each boat is allowed to not count the race with the highest score. The first three finishers of the June Series get the honor of having penalties applied to their handicap rating of 10% for 1st place, 7% for 2nd place and 4% for 3rd place. These penalties apply for the July and August Tuesday night series and are in addition to any additional penalties that may be earned in July. The lucky winner of the June series is Tashtego which tied on points with Pisces III but won the tiebreaker by having two first place finishes. In third place was Pipe Dream III who along with Panda were the only boats to make every race in the series.
Next Tuesday, July 5th there will be no race. Would anyone like to organize a picnic on Sandy Point for that evening? The weather looks good in the long range forecast!

Howdy Sailors,
Last night we had a terrific race! Five Boats made the start out by the red nun marking Dennison Rock. Their was a chilly SE wind blowing 8-10 with stronger puffs. Tashtego, acting as race committee set the course, ABC twice around with a finish at A allowing us to have three weather legs. There were several close crosses and some tight racing. The wind held for the duration of the race and after approximately an hour of racing everyone crossed the finish line with a smile on their faces. Once the times were run thru our top secret super computer Tashtego managed to beat out Pisces III by 15 seconds on corrected time. Pipe Dream’s corrected time put her in front of Panda and Uncle Al who sailed the entire race with no Jib.
The final Race of the June Series will be next Tuesday June 28th. I hope to see you all out there!

With a steady 6-8 kt southerly breeze , an absent race committee and the secretary out of town the 3 P’s , Pieces III , Pipe Dream and Panda set a course CBA x2 on port rounding with a self governed start at 6 pm . Pieces took the lead before the first marker with Panda and PipeDream in tow and held it to the end although almost giving it up due to a tactical course change at round 2 between C and B marker but still came out ahead and finished 1 st at the A mark with 1 minute before Panda and Pipe Dream fell behind by about 1 leg length . Suspicion that Pipe Dream opted for a sunset dinner cruise instead the race are yet to be determined . All in all a wonderful way to finish a June day , thanks for coming out ,
yup your commodore

Ahoy Sailors,
The June sailing series kicked off last night! The wind was steady 10 to 15 out of the Southeast. Our intrepid race committee of Steve and Dick Steadman were joined by Paul and his son Mike in Paul’s Boat Ripple. I am not sure if the name comes from the fact that it leaves a small wake, Paul is a big Dead fan or just likes cheap wine. Some answers will just have to wait. Three boats showed up at the starting line. Unlike the pandemic races of the past couple of years where four boats would equal four people on the water, I counted 12 people out enjoying the evening. The Course was set as BCA twice around with all marks to starboard. The Commodore was in attendance with his crew on his new boat Panda. Ralph and crew were on Pipe Dream III, and I was present with my crew on Tashtego. We all managed not to foul each other at the start and proceeded with a lovely sail. After the numbers were crunched Tashtego was the winner with Pipe Dream beating out Panda for Second. The second race of the series is next Tuesday. I hope to see you all out there! I will post the results on our website: greenhavensailing.com

Howdy Sailors,
Two Boats and 7 brave souls showed up for the Icebreaker race last night. After close consultation with the official time keepers the results were plugged into a high speed computer located at a secret government compound under a large mountain. When the results were returned the commodore’s new boat Panda had edged out the local favorite Tashtego by only a few seconds. The good news is that we had a stiff breeze, a lot of fun and the sailing season was kicked off in fine fashion. The first race of the June series will be next Tuesday June 7th. I hope to see you out there!
The official GSC website is up and running at Greenhaven Sailing Club Please check it out and let me know if you have anything you would like to add.
