Greenhaven Sailing Club – History
The Greenhaven Sailing Club was formed on February 4, 1973, by a group of sea loving sailors who thought it would be fun to join together to form a club to encourage the art of sailing, advance the arts of navigation and seamanship and promote fellowship among sailors. The Club’s first Commodore was Charlie Clachrie the owner and operator of Greenhaven Marina. We are a “paper” club, we do not have a permanent club house or facility. The club continues to host Tuesday night racing in Little Narragansett Bay in the months of June, July and August. We also host a Charlie Clachrie memorial race on a weekend in August, a Commodore’s Cup Race on a weekend in early September and several weekend races in the fall. We have several gatherings throughout the year, an occasional club cruise or picnic. The current members carry on the tradition of encouraging the art of sailing, navigation, seamanship and fellowship among sailors. The Greenhaven sailing club is a member of the Eastern Connecticut Sailing Association and uses ECSA PHRF ratings to handicap out members boats.
